Use this checklist to bring your first FinDIT project library online in under thirty minutes.

Before You Index

  • Create one top-level folder for each project or client.
  • Keep folder names stable; avoid frequent renaming during active indexing.
  • Confirm external drives are mounted before launching FinDIT.

Initial Setup

  • Add your footage folders in Settings and start background indexing.
  • Run a few simple test queries to validate search quality for your library.
  • Enable transcript indexing if dialogue search is part of your workflow.

First Team Workflow

  • Standardize query conventions (scene, action, location) across teammates.
  • Define where exported edit lists should be saved for editors.
  • Document a weekly index health check for larger projects.

After setup, continue with All Features to map retrieval capabilities to your production pipeline.
